Our body is the vehicle God has given us to reach out to the world, to take in the world and to receive what the world will give us. It walks with us through all our life — through our joys, our challenges, our sufferings.
To know our body is to know our self. To have our body addressed with compassion in bodywork is to learn to love all the stories that we have stored within ourselves. In allowing our bodies to be held in highest regard and to be tended to, we are better able to love ourselves and those that come into our lives.
To know our body is to know the spirit-filled nature of it. Each life is unique. Each life is an expression of God’s movement on the earth Each body holds that expression, holds that learning, holds that knowledge. The body carries the butterflies of first love, the fears that shake us, the depth of our grief, physical injuries both large and small. Our bodies are like an encyclopedia of emotional, physical and spiritual experiences.
When we have bodywork, we have an opportunity to open the encyclopedia, to learn from this remarkable tool that God gave us. God could have put us on this planet as a spirit but God gave us this body because it is our partner. Every cell in our body is a sacred opportunity to know the world and God in a deeper way.
There is an opportunity in bodywork to know yourself at your essence and by knowing yourself, know all of God’s creations.
People come to bodywork because they are stressed, because they have forgotten their essence. Bodywork helps still them so they can once again hear their soul song. People come because their body is in pain. They come to learn how to deal with that pain, how to relieve that pain, how to get beneath that pain, how to find God in that pain. Some people come because they need to feel grounded. Some come as a way to holistically honor their body, mind and spirit.
There is an opportunity in bodywork to know yourself at your essence and by knowing yourself, know all of God’s creations. You are God’s creation. To feel, deep in your bones, the truth of this, is to know peace. It is a felt experience, a beautiful journey, a gift.
May you be safe. May you be free of physical suffering. May you be free of mental suffering. May you be happy.
